Pollination Of Flowers

Plants are composed of different biological organs. The different organs of the plant serve a purpose to the plant, like human organs do to the human body. The flower is the plant’s reproductive organ. Flowers serve the purpose of reproduction of the plant by means of pollination.

In order for the sperm that is contained in the pollen to reach the ovules; the pollen must move from the anthers to the stigma of the plant. This movement from the anthers to the stigma is called pollination. Some plants self pollinate, meaning they do not need to propagate their pollen. But most of the flowers need to get their pollen from one plant to another.

Plants have adapted many different ways to pollinate, but there are mainly two ways that plants use to get their pollen from one plant to the other. One mechanism is the spread of pollen through wind. The plants such as grass, Birch or Maple trees rely on wind for pollination. The other method of pollination is attraction of insects. The pollen sticks to the insects and then travels with them to other plants. Honey bees are the most common pollinator insects. Hence, nature provides for its own reproduction.
